Seasonal classic American cuisine ~ with a Scandinavian twist ~ meets favorite family recipes at Julia’s Local.

A true collaboration between the two of us ~ Norwegian chef Henning Nordanger of Henning’s Local (2012-2024) in the western Catskills and Julia Joern, a long-time Round Top resident ~ Julia’s Local marries our devotion to super fresh ingredients, tailor-made hospitality, and love for the local community {with a secret wish to turn strangers into friends}.

Inspired by traditions of home cooking gleaned from our own personal stories, as well as recipes and techniques gathered from colleagues and other admired chefs around the world, our menu celebrates the daily harvest from our own extensive one-acre Round Top culinary garden.

Originally a family home and quaint German bakery for close to 50 years, our unique Heart’s Content Road building ~ a short walk from our house and culinary garden on Blackhead Mountain Road ~ was painstakingly and patiently renovated during the pandemic. Our DIY handiwork culminated into creating simple and minimal interiors, an intimate bar for enjoying a perfect cocktail, a long and spacious main dining room featuring contemporary art from Julia’s personal collection, a four-seat chef’s table inside Henning’s kitchen, a little off-the-shelf retail area, and a newly-constructed front deck for outdoor summertime seating.

At Julia’s Local, both our food and design are the epitome of casual rustic elegance.
